I love to paint! My earliest mature paintings (averaging about 5 by 6 feet) were abstract and about brushwork-- specifically exploring expression, movement, and freedom through it. My current work is smaller and usually at least metaphorically representative, exploring narrative, metaphor, color and brushwork.
My work has been variously described as "soul work", "dream-scapes", "internal landscapes", and art you can "feel in your gut". Perhaps all apply. I look to explore experiences using color, brushwork and sparse, iconic imagery, and often draw imagery from emotion or nature.
Recently I've been exploring my grandmother's tool of choice: painting knives. This past fall, I began a series of small, more or less abstract landscapes done exclusively with knives. I am thrilled to find that I am starting to understand exactly how my grandmother achieved some of her textures and effects. Very exciting!
