Jason Smith

I've always been intrigued with metal, I find geometric and abstract shapes fascinating. Coming from four generations of jewelers, it seemed like the most logical career path to pursue. So I embarked on a career in jewelry starting in 1990. The journey as a goldsmith/jewelry designer spanned over two decades. Yet there was always the dream to someday build large metal sculptures.

Upon moving to North Carolina, I met one of the leading sculptors in the state who agreed to take me under his wing and helped me to make my dream a reality. Today my mission is creating sculptures for residential, commercial, and commission based clientele.

In pursuit of artistic expression, sculpture has always been my primary concern. I have worked in many mediums but metal has remained best suited for my work because of its strength, malleability, and inherent beauty.

My sculpture is abstract. The abstract manipulation of form and space to create visual balance, using rhythm, action, and movement, combine to create compositions that convey the implied energy found in my work.
