Arianna Bara

I am a jeweler because I enjoy creating objects of delicacy from hard and seemingly unyielding materials of the earth. My creative spirit is moved by nature, and as a Hillsborough artist, I love to hike along the Eno River and let the woods and the water revitalize and invigorate me. The organic and structural aspects of the natural world are an inspiration, from the simplicity of a curving vine to the intricacies of a thistle flower head. My creative process always begins with stones. If I am pairing them, the process can be a long one, as I lay them all out and see which ones create something special together. While I often sketch out a design, I also enjoy forming, texturing and hammering a variety of shapes and seeing what unusual combinations arise. I often feel as if the materials move themselves into place. Each of my pieces is infused with the wonder and joyfulness of this process.
